Live Music Now

"Music, amongst all the great arts, is the language which penetrates most deeply into the human spirit, reaching people through every barrier, disability, language and circumstance" (Yehudi Menuhin).

I've recently started working with Live Music Now, a music outreach organisation - and it's the most rewarding thing I've ever done. I'm now performing in care homes, schools and prisons - bringing music to those that rarely get the chance to experience it. The power of music to overcome barriers and reach people is incredible - so often I meet people who face difficulties in communicating, cut off from the enjoyment of participating and sharing with others - and by the end of a session, they're singing along, shaking shakers, dancing, and SMILING, which is just lovely. And one of the most amazing things I've found is with older people living with dementia - so many might not be able to tell you their own name, but will remember every single lyric to a song from 50 years ago, and happily sing along without a care in the world for just a few moments of their day. Incredible.
