Music in Hospitals

Julia Turner and I have spent the last couple of days performing for patients at Southmead and Cossham Hospitals, and what a lovely time we've had! We performed in the atriums, cafes, on the wards, in the waiting rooms... Great to see so many patients and staff smiling, clapping, tapping, singing and dancing throughout!

The performances in the atrium were a part of the Great Brunel Buskathon - a month of live music to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Care Appeal.

The performances around the hospitals were part of their fantastic Fresh Arts programme - and here's what they have to say about the benefits of live music:

"Live music entertains our patients and staff, provides a wonderful talking point and brings a relaxed atmosphere to the hospital. Music helps to create a positive healing environment to support the recovery process and also boosts wellbeing by decreasing levels of stress, anxiety and depression – essential in a busy hospital like ours."
